A house I used to live in as an art student in 1992. It still looks exactly the same with the same yellow door but the oddest conversion has happened of cutting the house in half right down the middle to make 2 maisonettes!

A brilliant fun time. I hope they have the Chocolate Festival again next year.

Houses

Bickleigh Castle, Devon where my grandpa lived in the 1960s and 70s. The Beatles looked round and were interested in buying it but decided it was too small!

I couldn’t look round as it is now a hotel but would like to stay there one day.

It is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The castle looks really lovely with its own 6th century chapel, moat and gardens. I have been recommended by friends who stayed here recently to stay in the bridal suite if you are interested to see the main house, hall etc. and they said the family who live here are very nice and welcoming.

A perfect place to stay on the long drive down to Cornwall!

Chocolate path, Bristol

The chocolate path is a cycle path by the river Avon in Bristol and is renowned for its chocolate like paving. The river is tidal and is a mixture of sea water and river water. The river looks chocolatey today and the water is very high.

Damien Hirst sculpture at the RWA, Bristol ‘Charity’. It really seems to make sense now in this economic downfall.

David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art, London showing landscape paintings, ipad prints and videos of Yorkshire and a few of California. AMAZING! Following the tradition of Gainsborough but in his unique way.

A trip to Falmouth in March

20120324-002329.jpg

Pendennis Castle was built by Henry VIII in 1539 as part of a national building programme of coastal artillery forts to protect England from French and Spanish invasion.

Henry’s fort has four main elements: a guardhouse, a forebuilding, a central round tower and a surrounding gun platform called the ‘chemise’.

It was designed as a gun fort and from the middle of the 17th Century was used as accommodation, offices, an officer’s mess and storage. During the Second World War it became the headquarters of the Falmouth Fire Command.

The guard barracks were built in 1700 and are the earliest surviving barracks in England. They accommodated the guard and later used as a hospital, a schoolroom and a carpenter’s workshop. The northern block was altered in the early 20th Century to provide a modern guardroom and detention cells for badly behaved soldiers.

The block is kept in the period of the First World War. Thousands of troops passed through The castle for training.

I explored the castle and took some photos.
